THE LEGACY

Historical Significance

Set against the backdrop of the majestic Aravallis, Sariska is regarded as the place in the Mahabharata where the Pandavas found sanctuary during their last year of banishment. The shrine at Pandupol is still visited by thousands of pilgrims.

Historically, the Kankwari Fort, located within the core of the reserve, was built by Maharaja Jai Singh II. It gained notoriety when Mughal emperor Aurangzeb imprisoned his elder brother Dara Shikoh here.
Quick Note

Tiger Relocation: The Glory is Back Sariska made history in 2008 by becoming the worlds first tiger reserve to successfully reintroduce tigers after they had vanished in 2005. Today, the population is thriving thanks to the relocation from Ranthambore.
